Color therapy has been a long tradition of alternate healing in many cultures. In ancient China, for instance, healers believed that stomach problems could be cured by rubbing a yellow object over the patient’s stomach. Ancient Roman healer, Pleneus, claimed that precious red stones would help stop bleeding.
In 1877, scientists Dawns and Blunt discovered that it’s possible to cure rickets by using ultraviolet light. Color, of course, is a form of visible light. Other studies have been done since then, and modern scientists are now entertaining the possibility that there might be more to light and color than any of us really know. It’s common knowledge, of course, that some bright colors, like pink and yellow, are often associated with “happy moods”, while darker colors tend to be associated with “darker moods”. But can light and color be used to improve a person’s overall health, emotionally and physically?
Alternate healers are known to associate “chakras” with specific colors. According to metaphysical healers, chakras make up an “energy system” within our bodies. Each chakra has a specific role to play for our overall well being, and certain colors are associated with each color. The heart chakra, for instance, is associated with green. Why? Can the color green help us recover from a broken heart? The stomach chakra is associated with yellow. The ancient Chinese healers, of course, would try to heal stomach illness with the color yellow.
Obviously, there is controversy with chromotherapy. Chakras, auras, and alternative healing aren’t recognized or acknowledged by mainstream scientists. Still, some are interested in researching such matters.
For those interested in learning more about chromotherapy, and feel that it can help them, here is a list of certain colors and their supposed abilities:
· Orange - stabilizes the kidneys and aids with diabetes.
· Blue - helps calm the nerves and reduces depression.
· Green - improves the blood systems and ‘heals’ broken hearts.
· Pink - increases happiness.
· Red - increases strength.
· Violet - rejuvenates with the help of melatonin and other hormones.
